DOWN UNDER glad to hear from you, had been worried that you were without any power etc? Hope all your family weathers the storm OK?
During our last hurricane we lost all power, cell phones, roads close by flooding, etc.
The whole world must be getting hit hard right now as we are having record cold 18-20 degrees night time, 28-30 day time ( normal here is mid 50's at night-mid to upper 70's during day ) that will take out all our oranges, lemon-limes and nut trees as well as ruining local sugar cane fields, and any winter planted fields? The whole northern parts of USA getting deep snow and ice? Even my one daughter in Bakersfield California cant get across mountains into Los Angeles because of record snow fall?

OLD MEC,the rest of family are doing it hard,it will still be days before they can get access to heaps of towns, anybody whose house was built before 85' had to evacuate ,as they were not built to a category 5 standard, one hostel had 300 people from low lying area's, all where asked to move to another up the street, the one they left was smashed to pieces all gone, that officer needs an award.Banana's over here are all ready 18 dollars a kilo.2.2 pound.

You know it is a **** dirty shame that people will take advantage of situations like this (cyclone YASI and all the other factors) to make a dollar. We don't grow any bananas in Texas, they are imported and yet they are .43 cents a pound. That would be .94 cents a kilo in US dollars and our dollar is worth .98 cent AUD. So about .95 cent US for a kilo here in Texas. Don't buy them!

Hope you and all your family were able to get thru the cyclone with little damage both physically and economically. We here in the USA certainly are concerned with our friends and great allies down under. That cyclone was about as strong as they get and certainly was an awesome sight to see on radar. Hopefully the USA will send aid to the needy but with our current government that may not happen. God speed.

Hi Texas001, we have a bloody goverment just the opposite to yours, last year she gave away over 700 million to other countries and gave queensland a lousy million towards flood relief, will probably waste another 7million on avisit from damb Queen. we are just starting to get fatalities from cyclone Yasi, silly things like turning generator on then going to sleep in same room.Would you believe some bloke decided to take his large yacht south out of storm 11/2 hours before it hit Cardwell,we are expecting a lot more from low lying counties in the flash floods.
