Looking for some advice on a motor upgrade.

97 club car stock controller (225 w/3.10 motor)

Looking to upgrade motor to get better overall speeds on flats and hills. The reason being is the current course I play at has its fair share of hills and with the stock motor there is not a whole lot of torque or speeed (about 3-4mph uphill -which feels super slow).
Looking for suggestions

Is your 1997 CC a "Series" motor ( F&R lever under right leg ) or "Shunt" ( F&R rocker type switch ) this is first consideration as requirements may be different? Then depending on what modifications you have added will cause part of your problem? Stock carts are not made to haul more than 2 people and 2 golf bags on resonably flat courses. Anytime you add rear seat, HD rear springs, lift kits, larger diameter tires with lug type tread, even tops and winshields you are cutting into available power.
Battery condition and quality also are major factor in the ablity to get hill climbing ability and speed?
The basic things to do depending on type of motor are
Larger guage cables throughout ( batterys, F&R, controller, Motor ) 4 Guage Minimum, Higher amp rated controller 400-500?-600, motor depending on pack voltage ( 36 volt motor run on 48 volts will give substantail boost ) again depending on type of motor HD F&R control. These are just basics that will help in combination. If you feel the need for a larger HP motor you can get from forum sponsors anything that you could want, whether it be rebuilt, new. Remember when ordering motors to give full info on voltage, tire diameter, gear ratio, lift etc so a good match between motor and controller can be arrived at.

Series motor - 48volt. As far as i know on the cart its all stock other than the controller that I replaced at the end of the summer in 2010.

Just curious - What is all involved in a plum quick motor swap for this year of cart?

Scotch front of cart.
Jack rear up and place jack stands under Axel.

remove last -Neg battery cable

Get 2 wrenches and remove and label 4 electrical cables.
(do not let the bolt spin )
Remove mounting bolts , slide motor out.

Lube shaft and motor housing with heavy grease
slide new motor in, and fasten to cart
Use 2 wrenches and connect all 4 electrical cables back
(do not let the bolt spin )


Place last -Neg back to battery pack.



Box up old motor and send to PQ for credit.

1 hour .

If you want to pull hills you need to be able to draw more amps.... You should upgrade the controller.

He is right , put the moter in first then if U want even more POP upgrade Cables and Controller !

Then send pictures of the Wheelies

As others may have said, a Plum Quick motor is the quickest and cheapest fix I have seen.

I'm not affiliated with them in any way. Drove up, met them and swapped the motor a few years ago, for my 2001 regen. That was the easiest 5 mph and more power mod that I have ever made. They're really good people.
