If you take the green wire and jump it to the negative battery, it should bypass the voltage regulator.

Jumping the green wire to the bat. neg. will result in a "full field" condition. This means that your generator will be putting out the maximum current and voltage it is capable of! This is not a good thing for either your generator or the battery. I wouldn't recommend "full fielding" your charging system for any longer than 1 min. or so as it will cook your battery and overheat the generator. This procedure is usually used only to test the voltage regulator and generator. Hope this helps - RAY

Does anyone have handy a diagram showing the proper wiring of a g2 generator? I'm trying to diagnose a no-charge issue with mine, and we recently replaced the generator. I wouldn't put it past us to get it wrong. I also thought that the starter would rotate in the wrong direction if wired backwards. I didn't think that the wires were long enough to get wrong in our case....but we are capable of getting even the impossible wrong.

One of the "STICKIES" at the beginning of these threads will lead you to wiring diagrams.

Stik, what does it tell you if ohms are high or are low? And, what is considered high and considered low?

Never mind, I read 2 articles, and I still don't understand why resistance is important!! Seems to me, that less resistance would be a good thing!!

OK I used the sticky and the diagram. I had the negative battery terminal and the jumper terminal wires that are next to each other on the end swapped. So I swapped to make it like the diagram, and now it only turns the motor over in reverse regardless of switch position. It also does it with a struggle and gets the battery cable very hot. So I think it doesn't like that. Now I really am in the land of confusion. And I HAVE to have this fixed for a race that we need it at Saturday. We use it to return my son's jr dragster from runs. I am tempted to put the wires back to their wrong location since it ran that way. But it doesn't charge, and I suspect we will struggle with keeping a charge in the battery so it doesn't strand us.
Help please?

4 wires and 2 plug ins.

Cant get the green and red wrong, so we know you have those right.

Negative from the battery goes on the lower post on the end cap, red battery positive to post on front of starter side case closest to the fire wall. That leaves the jumper wire to go from other end cap post, and final post on side of starter. From there if it doesnt work you have other issues

Mike- Does your question refer to the generator field resistance (red and green wires) ??

I'm with ya on green and red.
A1 is the lower post on the end cap and that is supposed to go to negative...agreed.
But the positive from the starter relay shows going to F2 on the diagram, which is the side terminal to the rear of the cart according to the picture I am looking at. And the jumper goes from A1 to F1 on the diagram which is to the front on this diagram. Is this wrong? Does the jumper go to the rear?

Looking at this ad, the jumper is toward the front I think:

And in this picture ad it is opposite:
