Then just clip one end to the straight post and the other clip to the battery?

That will work. You will need 4 alligator clips and enough wire to position the meter so you can see it.

Someone else may have a better solution, but that will work. Or charge up the batteries and let it rest for 2 hours. Take readings of each battery and record. Go for a decent ride and check again. If you have a bad battery it may show up that way.

The best way is to load test, though.
