Well, at least you know the lights are good . . . assuming no reducer or fuse is inline anywhere that could be causing the problem, I would think your assumption would be correct . . . new wiring could be the easiest/quickest way to resolve the problem . . . unless you want to trace down all existing wiring related to the lights looking for loose connections at splice points, bad ground back to battery, etc . . . it may be advantageous at this point to put in a voltage reducer/converter along with your new wiring . . . good luck . .

Thanks. In the time it will take me to trace and rest all of the wiring I could likely have it replaced. I think what I may do is require them so they work for my ipcoming trip, then afterwards when I have time get a voltage reducer or converter and tie it in to the ignitio. So the lights only work with the key......if that is possible

Thanks a bunch

I read this a couple of times, and am totally confused. How does one get 12 volts from an 8 volt battery. If 3x8 volt batteries were used for power source
(24 volts) and the headlights connected in series, the results would be 12 volts across each headlight. The only other source of 12 volts would be from a 48 to 12 volt converter. I would be verifying the meter with a second meter. The next test should be to disconnect the lighting wires at the battery and identify each wire in sequence with a continuity tester. One end of continuity tester to batt. positive and other to light switch. pull out switch knob and move wire to other terminal, then to headlight ect. Some meters have a continuity tester built in or a simple buzzer and battery can be cobbled together.
Good luck.

Went through and added all new wiring and everything works, just have to get a voltage reducer. So, there must have been a short somewhere. In the process I realized I have no brake lights. I thought I did but never looked and haven't really used the cart much yet. So, gonna get a voltage reducer and brake liht switches and I should be good to go.....
