Club Car gas vs electric

I notice there are so many more electric posts to this BB than gas posts. Do you guys think that is because gas carts are less problematic, or is it that electric carts are more numerous. Just wondering.................

Interesting question, but I think Steve's lengthy answer covers it well. I love my quiet ride though, and it has actually been fun learning about all the electrical functions.

I agree. It *has* been fun learning about leg-tricity. Thats was one of the reasons I got my cart.

I will disagree... I had a 48v electric club car DS. I didn't know how it worked and no one around me knew which made it alot harder to troubleshoot (this forum wasn't around then). On a full charge it would run great for awhile on flat ground. Throw in some hills and it wasn't so great after a long ride. Then there was the 8-10 hour charge time.

I would never buy electric again. Gas engines do take more maintenance but if properly cared for that Maintence isn't more than the occasional oil change and a tune up. Plus if a gas cart runs out of juice, dump more gas in it an your good to go. No wait time while it charges.

I think they both have their place. My first cart was a gasser (Yamaha G14). We were drag racing and I needed something to pull a junior dragster around and cruise all day. That's why went with it. Heard stories about guys running out of battery power and I didn't want that to happen late in the day. Got it cheap and it needed a lot of work over time we did that work and it was a GREAT cart.

Now we spend more time in RV parks than at the race track. There are a lot of RV parks that only allow electric due to noise and smell. Not sure I agree, but that's the way it is so we bought the 2004 Precedent. Love the cart and the quiet ride, but still learning how this dang thing works......and I have a ton of mods I want to do to it. (paint coming soon!)

I sold my old gasser, but I will find me a newer Club Car gasser and have it to play around with too. Can you ever have too many golf carts and toys in the garage!

it all depends on how your gonna use it and what type of tarraine you use it on.........i own both gas and elec but up camp where i use them most of the time i havn,t started my gas carts in a few years......the elec. if maintained right is more than enough for the 22 miles of roads we have............as for maintence i spend more time on elec,s but i see many more gassers for break downs.............you have to remember they were designed to do 36 holes of stop and go on mostly grass.........( golf courses ) and then parked for 12 hours.............. what we do with them even just campground cruising is by industry standards abuse..........i started with a gasser and would never ever consider an elec. but after all these years working on them and for what i need i wouldn,t even go back to a gasser but that dosn,t mean the next guy shouldn,t have a gasser and would have no use for an elec. cart...........in the end its all in how we are going to use it.................................

It's all based on personal preference. As for myself, I wouldn't own a gas car. But like I said, that's all personal preference. To answer your other question as well, YES the electric cars are far more numerous. In our 4 county service area there is not a single golf course with gas powered fleet golf cars. Most of the maintenance facilities are switching to electric Carryalls as well.
