yes there is......get up under your cart.....but once its set, you shouldn't need to adjust it ........ its what the adjusters are for and what they do.

YES on 'should I adjust the self adjuster' regardless of the make of cart ... this is what the tech does on every install. Just be careful you are net bending the self adjusting arm. And check to see it is resting on the adjuster star when you are done. If you are moving the shoes outward there is no conflict or danger of damage. The shoes should be adjust out to where they just barely drag on the drum at some point in each rotation. no more no less.

I don't believe self adjusting brakes apply to Ez Marathons.

You have a plain old set it and forget it adjuster. This sets the starting point for the brake shoe travel. Set it so the shoes just barely touch the drum as described above and then re-check them on your 6 mo. or annual service. Make sure both sides are equal. If the shoes are set too far away from the drum then the shoe travel will not be enough to create pressure needed to stop the cart.

So how do I adjust the self adjuster? Is that the thing in the drum between the shoes or the thing under the cart going to the peddle?

It will tell you more than I can type.
Yes the adjuster is between the shoes, as I already stated it is a pre set of the shoes. You adjust it by turning the star wheel with a screw driver though a hole in the face of the drum.
After you adjust the shoes... adjust the cables with the tension balancer

as scotty mentioned already.....you need to download the service manual and read the brake section....it has a section on how to install new ones, and how to adjust them.....it has pictures within the section which makes thing clearer.

I know when I can see it, even in pictures, it helps.

here is the brake compensator assembly....the part that scotty was talking about (tension balancer) in on the left, its where the cables attach. the shaft is threaded and has a nut/lock nut and its what tightens the cables. the other end attaches to your brake peddle.

Your brakes are a "system" of individual components. Like any system, there is a specific sequence of servicing the individual components. Treating it piece-meal by attacking parts and pieces will not result in a properly tuned system.

Please download the manual and follow the chapter on brakes.
