Default 12v light wiring Q?

I know wiring a set of 12v lights into two of the 6v batteries is not ideal or desirable because it causes an uneven discharge which can result in an over charge in the other 4 batteries. But what if I wired the lights to all 6 batteries so that I can run off of 3 banks of 12v? Would this help to even the draw on the batteries so that they discharge more evenly? Could this be done safely so that the lights see 3 banks of 12v and the motor still sees 1 bank of 36v?

well I guess you could, but you would up with a "spaghetti bowl" of wires. if you are going to only hook up lights, do it right and you can buy one of the small 10a DC converters.....it would a lot cleaner setup

Draw a schematic. You have to disconnect some of the high current series wiring in order to create a series/parallel arrangement, unless you plan on using diodes.

I just went through this and decided to get 36v bulbs for my lights instead of the converter. I purchased them from www.bulbs.com. I ordered three bulbs, one spair and I
recieved them in three days to N.E. Michigan.
Now I have a one time install, no cluster of wires to deal with, no worries on two batteries being discharged unevenly or charging issues within the pac.
A well informed decision was made due to my question here on this sight and the answers recieved. The same question you ask.
Go with bulbs.

That would be my suggestion, if head and tail lights are all you have. Even if you add a phone charger and a horn, those are such small and incidental loads, you'd probably be fine putting something like that on two batteries. If you want a stereo, a dome light, or anything like that, I'd go with a reducer.

I did the same as dewzer and went with 36 volt halogens. I only have headlights so this works great for me. If I had other accessories, I would have done as yurtle said and gone with a 36/12 converter. Hope this helps - RAY

Didnt realize they made 36v bulbs. Might look into those. All I am running is a set of cheap offroad driving lights I got at Walmart. My cart is just a hunting rig so it doesnt have any other electronics besides a pair of digital volt meters. Dont even have or plan on taillights.

Even cheap lights are usually 55 watts per bulb, or 110 watts a pair. Doing the math, 110 watts divided by 12 volts is nearly 10 amps. So just a little usage will quickly unbalance a set of two 6 volt batteries.
