They get very TESTY when you call and tell them you cut the seal to pull my own meter. I don't actually own it I know. Even more so since the new meters have a turtle in them to read remotely. Turtle may not be the right term but that is what the service guys call it.

They gave me a new meter base for free and had no problem killing power and pulling the meter for me, but wanted a sign off from the County Planning and Development, who in tern needed a licensed electrician to have done the work. Technically, the meter base is their "point of demarcation", and I'm responsible for its maintenance, but I need a license to touch it.
