That would get me a little more power for now, until I need to replace my batteries, at which time I could make the decision to go with 6-8volts or 8-6 volts to make the change to 48. The only other thing that I would need to do is change the pc board. Is that correct?
The PC Board (which is, in fact, the all the electronics in the charger - the only other things in the case are transformer and ammeter), runs about $135.

10 Screws hold the cover on.
Looks like 3 screws and a bolt hold the PC Board in place.
Five wires with 1/4" push-on connectors.

----------
You'll also need a high current cable to tie the seventh battery into the pack and some battery hold downs.

If I were to convert to 42V now, how much of a difference will it make? Would I get a substantial benefit as far as torque and or run time over 36V

With the same motor and controller installed, I got a measured 16.7% increase in both range and speed when I went from 36V to 42V, even though my cart weight went up by 90 pounds (more batteries and higher AH batteries). 4MPH in speed and 5 miles in range.

I have no way of actually measuring torque, but the acceleration was definitely better and it didn't slow as much on hills.

Of course, I went from an old 225AH 36V battery pack to a new 245AH 42V battery pack, so just adding a like battery to an existing pack probably won't produce the same results, but I suspect it will be very noticeable.

I appreciate all of your expertise and help. I think that is the way I will go. I will at least get the most benefit for my money right now, until I need to replace batteries. Then I can decide if going to 48, or staying with 42 is the better option!

FWIW, I got nine years to the month out of my batteries, so I drove them until I couldn't stand the uphill speed reduction, then went straight from 36 to 48 volts.

I got my wire set, solenoid, and F/R contactor in this weekend and have started reassembling the cart. Where can I get the big fuses that connect inline to the battery terminal? The old ones look pretty bad. They may still be good, but I may as well start fresh.
I sure hope I can get all of this wired up and working again. It is a lot of wires and I do not know much about wiring and electricity!

Has anyone actually done the 42v to to 48v DPI charger upgrade by replacing the board? Any other parts needed or is this a direct swap?

Does the super heavy duty solenoid that operates on 36v or 48v also operate at 42v, or is there a specific 42v solenoid I need to get to upgrade to 42v from my current 36 v?

What's the max speed I could expect out of 36v PDS cart running on 48v with 18" tires?(johnnieB?)
