Re: CC 1996 DS Rear End/Motor Rattle
If the shaft is unusable the way it is, a motor shop can fix it. They would first cross reference a bearing that would have the same OD but a smaller ID. Machine down the shaft to the new bearing ID and press on. It would be cheaper than a new motor but you'd be back to square 1 (with a non-OEM bearing).
If a bad shaft was my problem and since it's a series motor, I'd first be looking for a used 36 volt motor for the 33% increase in speed and torque. Least cost and most bang for the buck. Good luck with whatever direction you choose. . |

Re: CC 1996 DS Rear End/Motor Rattle
After getting the new bearing in for the motor, found it was too loose on motor shaft.
Don't want to spend money to get motor shaft turn down. So I figure I have nothing to loose with this motor. Here is what I'm doing. 1. Loctite bearing to the motor shaft. 2. Drill and tap end of motor shaft for new bolt. 3. Install Bolt (with Loctite) and Washer to end of motor shaft to hold bearing on motor. 4. Drill 1" clearance hole in motor end plate. This is to give clearance for new Bolt and Washer used to retain bearing on the motor shaft. 5. Add dust cap to motor end plate to keep water and dust out of motor. I know all this is drastic but if all this doesn't work... I'll get new motor. |

You could probably find a used armature for less than 100 bucks and have a repair to last a long time.

Re: CC 1996 DS Rear End/Motor Rattle
The question I have is...how is the fit on the rear housing? Many bearing suppliers used to carry shims that could be used to repair this issue...might call a bearing house and ask...😎

Re: CC 1996 DS Rear End/Motor Rattle
I appreciate everyone's feedback and suggestions..
Just Loctited new bearing to end of motor shaft and let cure over night. Put motor back together and back into Club car. Fixed all my rattling issues. Here are my thoughts on this solution. 1. If the Loctite holds, I'm done. 2. If Loctite fails to hold bearing, go to one of the other suggestions here. 3. If I ever need to get bearing off again, just heat bearing joint and pull bearing off. FYI - To make fastening bearing retainer with those two #8 screws easier: 1. Get two 2" #8 screws and cut off heads of screws. 2. Screw these #8 screws into retainer to use as a pilot when installing motor end plate. 3. After securing end plate to motor unscrew one of the #8 screws (poking through end plate) and using the other #8 screws to pull retainer close to end plate so the regular #8 screw can be fastened to retainer. Second screw is easy at this point. Thanks for everyone help. |
