Yes it would, it would slip, allowing the motor to turn when it is not supposed to, thus failing the motor brake test. The RXV would shut down and go no further. The brake may not be releasing on its own when the controller powers it up, so someone removed springs to allow it to slip, not understanding how the RXV motor brake is supposed to function. The springs apply the motor brake and the magnetic coil releases the brake. It is either unpowered and locked up in parking brake mode, or powered and released in driving mode. There is no in between, as it was never designed to slip.

It is time to buy a new motor brake assembly. You can find them on eBay, but shop carefully. The RXV tests the motor brake well and if it does not meet specs, it will fail the test and you will still need a motor brake. Where are you located?

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the explanation. We are located in a small island in French Polynesia, so there are no EZGO representative there. We'll try to found some springs to replace the missing ones and test. Otherwise, if we have to order a new one, we'll receive it in some months... Anyway, we'll see. I'll let you know.

Thanks again.
Regards.

Hi both,

The golfcar is now running
There was a bad connection on a positive wire (red wire). The solenoid has been repaired. The key switch has been repaired. Wires have been connected to correct positions (charger/batteries/motor controller, solenoid). Now it is running.
We still have to repair the charger 48V. It is flashing 6 leds lights ("internal failure"). We found the 2 main fuses inside blown, 30A 250V. As we are on an iland with no shop there, we'll connect some common electrical schneider breaker instead... This will not be so good looking but hope this will work.

Thanks again for your help, it was really appreciated.
