Tail Lights on dim ALL the time
I have a Precedent 2006 and recently the rear lights (red LED) stay on dimmly all the time - key on or off, all night. the voltage measures around 6 in this condition. turning the lights on illuminates them at full brightness. Any ideas?
Thanks! |

even with the switch leads disconnected, lights stay on..... headlights work as intended, just the back lights are still getting 6v from somewhere...

Did you wire the lights?

Re: Tail Lights on dim ALL the time
Here is where I would start. First go to any Auto-parts store and buy a can of CRC Electronics parts cleaner. It's a big red can with a picture of an electrical connector on it. I get mine at O'Reilly (sp). Then start by taking the dash out and spray clean all of the connectors. Be sure to take them apart and clean them. I suspect you have dirt bridging two connections that's causing your problem. Be sure to disconnect batteries before doing this and don't use any other cleaner besides this one. Others will disolve the plastic. After your finished in the dash track down all the other connectors you can find and do them.
Just read your other post. Be sure to clean out the turn signal switch also. Do not start putting jumpers in to troubleshoot it's only going to cause more problems. |

Re: Tail Lights on dim ALL the time
ok - here's what I found: in the well under the floor mat by the pedals, the brake light wire had been disconnected and was lying in the wet gunk, shorting out. with that plugged back in, the brake lights stay on all the time, until the key switch is turned to off. Dim light on all the time is solved, but the real problem has now surfaced. I'm thinking I need a new switch?

Re: Tail Lights on dim ALL the time
Some brake lights stay on for up to 4 minutes. That may be what you have.

Tail Lights on dim ALL the time
Disconnect both wires from brake switch, test by touching them together (that’s all the switch does by design) if they work as they should, install a new brake switch!
