Install All Star Super Sport Lift - Brakes after the Flip
I've been wrestling with the backend of my cart for too many nights now...I think I'm close (I pray!).
I just completed flipping and swapping the brake plates as David (TahoeDawg) outlines in the sticky. The issue I'm having now is that before the flip, the drums slide on smoothly, but after the flip the brakes act as if engaged (though I don't think they are. This prevents me from sliding the drum cover back on. Is it likely I'm going to need to adjust the brakes...line lengths too? Also, please take a look at my pictures to see if anything is off...the brake lines are not going in a perfectly straight line...normal? Did the axle possible rotate during installation... |

Re: Install All Star Super Sport Lift - Brakes after the Flip
Just curious. Is this a 6" lift or 4"? The lift block in the pictures makes me believe it is a 4" lift which doesn't necessarily require the brake flip.
Anyway, i'd loosen up the brake cable via the tensioner under the floor mat and see if that helps take the pressure off the pads enough to get the drums back on. |

Its a 6" lift...just realized the pictures are upside down...don't know why it always does that.

It's the way you hold your phone when you take the pics.

Re: Install All Star Super Sport Lift - Brakes after the Flip
My original thought was to spin the star gear to reduce tension and then place drum back on and use pedal to "auto-adjust". Is that correct?

Re: Install All Star Super Sport Lift - Brakes after the Flip
Can anyone help me with the proper way to reduce tension on the brakes so I can get the drum back on?
FYI...going to have to pull the lift back off anyway as I didn't put the double bolt between the OEM plate and the lift block...going to try to "level out the axle" when I get the lift removed AGAIN |

You will need to "re-zero" the auto adjusting star. As seen in Pic 1 of your 2nd post, in between the shoes. Turn the bolt inside the star nut all the way clockwise, but leave it loose. This will basically back them off all the way.

Seth,
Did you take off the shoes when you did the brake flip or did you flip the entire brake cluster and swap sides? |
