Broken tie rod and now steering isn't consistent
My daughter was driving our Club Car Precedent 48V with a 4" lift and hit something with the front passenger wheel that broke the tie rod "joint". I replaced the tie rod today and found that it didn't have consistent behavior and am wondering if I should replace the whole steering rack.
I marked where the previous tie rod was located and put on the new one. The wheel was out to the right (away from the cart). I tightened up the tie rod enough that the wheel was now pointed straight, it drove straight, etc. When turning full lock to the left the steering looked and acted (when test driving) normal. When turning full lock to the right the left driver tire turned in an appropriate direction but the damaged right passenger tire turned too far to the right... it was kicked out way more than the left tire which caused problems when test driving. Can I adjust at the steering rack and not just the tie rod end or should I just junk this one and go with a new steering rack? I tried to carefully check suspension components and couldn't see any bends or damage. Thanks in advance! |

Something must be bent. Often, spindles can get bent without you even knowing. The slightest bend of a spindle can cause all kinds of steering problems.

Steering arm on the spindle is likely bent. They bend easily and it's not always immediately obvious. Cracks in the paint are a giveaway.
Have done a couple Precedents that people have rode into the ditch or hit a curb hard and nothing else was damaged except the spindles got bent. Both elected to do lift kits rather than replace the stock parts. |

Re: Broken tie rod and now steering isn't consistent
Thanks guys. I crawled under the front and saw that yes, the paint on the tie road bracket was cracked and it is bent up. I used the Steeleng 6" lift kit and just called them to see if they sell a replacement part. Surprised they are open but they are checking to see if they have the part to sell. Doesn't look like they stock repair parts readily.

Is there a stock replacement for the referenced steering arm? Apologies for being dense! Last year I went through the cart and replaced all front/rear suspension, including the steering box but did not touch any other steering parts. My steering is still a little loose/funky so I’d like to replace this part as well for peace of mind.
