Default Need More Torque

My '05 DS FE290 needs help, I think. I have had the drive and driven clutches machined and the torque sping installed, by Dixie Carts. I have disconnected the rev.limiter and have the tie wraps on the small spring. The cart runs between 24 - 28 mph, but to me, the climbing power is not there. Maybe I am trying o compare this cart to my 4-wheeler.... Any thoughts or help with this??

I dont have anything done to mine but how big are your tires? Maybe thats the problem. I may not go to big on mine for that reason as i will loose some pulling power. If I can get around 20 mph for now I may be happy as I cant go big block on my 99 DS to get more power. How big are the hills? Double D style??? Lol

Tire size is 26 x 12 x 12................No Double "D's" here, we live near the coast and it's pretty flat. Unless you go ditch hopping

26 inch tires are pretty darn tall. You will seee a noticable lack of power with such a large wheel/tire change.

you cantry to change the gearing in the rear end but you wqill be loosing your speed for the power or vise versa. and plus the cost i would say is not cost effective. keep that in mind too.

We put 25s on a Yamaha and with some home modifications it will pull a hill until the front wheels come up.

Where does your belt rest (stopped) in your driven clutch? Is it at the very top or outer edge?
Where does your belt rest in the drive clutch? is it at the very botom or center?
How much slack does your belt have at rest?

Put it in neutral and watch where the belt is on the drive clutch when it engages, the lower in the drive and higher in the driven when it first engages will give you a lower gear.

I had an issue with one with no power and ended up machining the inner surfaces of both driven clutch halves where they touch in the center to bring them closer together, that moved the belt higher at rest and gave a lower gear at start.

Let us know what you find and we can go from there with some options.

Crash,

The belt on the driven clutch at rest, is just above the top rim.

The belt at rest on the drive clutch is a the very bottom.

With it in maintenance mode, and the engine ~ at 2,000 rpm, the belt is still in the bottom part of the drive clutch, and at the top on the driven clutch.

I sent both clutches to Tom and had them machined and the stiffer spring installed on the driven clutch. No new springs were installed on the drive clutch. Maybe with the tall tire and my fat a#$%, the FE290 is not strong enough.
