Default making battery cables from awg 2 al 45 mils xlp

I recently bought an 89 ezgo marathon. It was running fine until positive headlight wires crossed a negative battery terminal after a ramp slip. We smelled something burning and when I lifted the seat, i found that one of the batteries had a hole melted through the top next to the terminal. I replaced 2 batteries and the 2 cables but the resistor lugs and a few other connections look burnt. I wanted to try to make all new cables from wire I have (awg 2 al 45 mils xlp) if it can be used..but I'm not sure if that's the only problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
