Default 48 volt battery charger fault

My buddy left his cart to charge over night at my house because he thought he didn't have enough power to get home. I checked it (Powerwise QE) this morning and it has the battery volt fault, 2 red blinks and a pause and 2 red blinks. I checked the fluid in batts, they are good. 4 of the batteries read 7.8 and the other 2 read 7.9, battery pack reads 47.1. The battery meter on the cart is showing 50%. like this one http://www.ebay.ie/itm/12-Volt-EZGO-...item27d35cd12a This is as far as I can go, any ideas, bad charger???
Thanks for any ideas...

Those battery meters are notorious for false readings get a digital meter from Scotty B ( site sponsor) I would prob. Guess the batts got drawn down way below 50% SOC . , also some of the power wise chargers have issues as well .
I would invest in a DPI charger
Cheers!

47.1V tells me the charger is still connected, or was just disconnected, in fact it might be a little high for an On-Charge voltage.
What's the voltages after the batteries have set for 6 to12 hours?

Oops - overlooked the fact 48V was mentioned in the title.

Those voltages are way too low. 47.1V is less than 30% SoC. (See attached)

The 48V PW-QE goes throws a battery fault error if the pack voltage is less than 36V, but the voltage is above that now, so it might work.
Unplug the charger for the wall outlet to reset it and then initiate another charge cycle.

Your friend should do himself and his batteries a favor and get one of these: http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Digita...ry_Meters.html

I unplugged it and still getting the same fault. Can I charge them individually with a 12 volt charger? If so what's the proper way, don't need to start a fire blow up a battery...

Here is a list of the error codes

RED FLASH = fault code
LED FAULT CODES:
RED FLASH: Light turns on briefly, but does not
flash after that - check for valid AC voltage.
ONE RED FLASH: One flash, a pause and then
again one flash and a pause - Charge Enable
Fault: poor contact in the DC connector or dirty
contacts or Battery Temperature Fault: battery
temperature is greater than 122° F (50° C) or less
than 14° F (-10° C).
TWO RED FLASHES: Two flashes, a pause and
then again two flashes and a pause - Battery Voltage
Fault: Battery pack is less than 36.0 Volts or
more than 67.2 Volts. Battery pack is too discharged
or over charged for the charger to work.
THREE RED FLASHES: Three flashes, a pause
and then again three flashes and a pause - Battery
Charge Time-out: Charge time exceeded 24
hours. This may indicate a problem with the battery
pack or that the charger output current was
severely reduced due to high ambient temperatures.
FOUR RED FLASHES: Four flashes, a pause and
then again four flashes and a pause - Battery
Fault: Charge time exceeded. This indicates a
problem with the battery pack voltage not reaching
the required nominal level within the maximum
time allowed.
SIX RED FLASHES: Six flashes, a pause and
then again six flashes and a pause - Charger
Fault: An internal fault has been detected. If this
fault is displayed again after unplugging the
charger’s DC power cord and plugging it back in,
the charger must be taken to a qualified service
center.

What is the voltage of the pack that you are trying to charge? If it is more than 36 volts then I would guess that you have a connection issue between the charger and the pack.

You cannot charge an 8V battery with a 12V charger, but there is no need to, the pack voltage is above 36V, so the charger should be turning on.

Since it isn't and it is giving the two red flash error code, either the charger is bad or there is a bad connection in the battery sense circuit.

Clean the contacts in the charger output plug and the cart's charge receptacle. The battery is sensed via the auxiliary contact in the charger plug touching the outside of the negative radsok and the charge receptacle.
