Alltrax 4844 Question
I've been noticing an issue in my 36 volt series TXT. I have an Alltrax 4844 installed and have been using it for about 3 years. Lately the wire that goes from the B+ post on the Controller to the Forward-Reverse switch has been getting extremely hot to the point that I can smell it. I switched from 4 gauge to 2 gauge but am still having the same issue. I'm worried this may indicate an issue somewhere. Any ideas?

Re: Alltrax 4844 Question
Just ordered the HD F&R cam from ScottyB. Hopefully this will fix it.

Re: Alltrax 4844 Question
Copied from the site:
Field test show these switches can reduce the F&R operating temperature by as much as 80 degrees in some cases. Also says HD switch can dissipate heat 60% better than the competition. |

Re: Alltrax 4844 Question
The stock F&R has too small buss bars on the cam button, that combined with too small wires (6 AWG) from the factory and wearing from age creates the #1 high resistance point in a golf cart IMO. It can and will either leave you stranded or actually burn.
Attached are separate pictures of a new cam button, f&r switch plate and a burned switch assembly. The four contacts on the cam button must make good contact with the matching points on the switch plate. Over time the switch plate contacts do wear to the point they do not make good contact and even loose contact causing arcing. ScottyB's HD f&r switch is the better upgrade over stock and will provide years of service. Another more expensive alternative is a reversing contactor setup. He sells those too. |
