Default Digital Voltage Meter

I know this topic has probably had that s**t knocked out of it but since the search function is somewhat . I purchased a digital voltage meter from eBay ( I know there are better out there) and I have it hooked up at the moment straight to the pack without a switch so it is constantly on now I have read that these pull very little (milliamps) but should I run it on a switch ? I do have a switch kicking around so it wouldn't be an issue ...

Use the switch. Why draw anything if you don't need it. I flip my switch after a long run or if the cart sat overnight without being plugged in. A quick check tells me what's up. I think my album might have a pic of how I set mine up.

I used a switch, a simple SPST toggle mounted beside the meter. Leaving something on all the time seemed wasteful to me.

What is the purpose of leaving it hooked up?

I put the switch on it , I more or less just wondered , since this thing really doesn't pull any power and if there is a need for one . I know the analog type state of charge gauges take a bit of time to settle down to the correct voltage so running a switch on one of them may not be so convenient as you couldn't just flip the switch and get an accurate reading...

Sorry I was thinking a test meter, not a meter permanently installed. I used a splice on my key switch because it does draw so little, had no issues with it.

This thing is great so far ,I'am thetype that after EVERY charge I check the pack with my multi meter and track all info on a tracking sheet . Now with the gauge I can scrap having to pull out the multi meter . The cheapo gauge is only a .2 off of what my hand held meter is reading...

They may not be that off, depending where you plugged the "panel" meter, there is a lot more wire, connectors and contacts between the pack and the panel meter (voltage drop due to resistance).

Place your handheld digital meter on the back of the cheapo meter or at least as close as possible to its connection and see if you have the same voltage difference.

I did that on mine when I tested, same points, I think my fluke 77 would me a bit more accurate.
