HEY BELT, stay on the pulley
Ok after so many issues of trying to get the power out of my cart & thinking that my trouble was in the primary clutch not closing up enough I think the problem was that the belt was wore so narrow that the clutch would not tighten. So I got a new belt, now with the new one it slips off of the driven clutch once it get to about 1/2 throttle. the flange on the driven clutch is looks like it is bent about 1/8 inch. I that enough to throw off the belt? The distance between the flanges is 1 1/8" except for where it is bent, only 1" in that area. what should the distance be between the flanges? can I straighten the one that is not straight without it breaking? Or any other ideas? I am almost ready to push this thing over a hill into a lake
THANKS! |

Re: HEY BELT, stay on the pulley
The bent flange will flip the belt off.
Beating and straighting a part that spins 3000 rpm under my tush, I am not sure about that. |

Re: HEY BELT, stay on the pulley
My worry is that if i try to straighten it that it will break or crack, it looks like cast aluminum to me. is there anything inside that could have wore so that the distance between the flanges is too narrow that may be causing some of the issue? THANKS for all of your input

Re: HEY BELT, stay on the pulley
why don't you just replace the bent flange?

Re: HEY BELT, stay on the pulley
More info: I took the clutch apart tonight and once I got the spring off I found a couple small parts of the brass the top of the bushing is wore so thin that the end of it started breaking off. The brass bushing is wore so thin that there is about 3/16" slop when it slides onto the shaft of the other flange, and the small roller also have a lot of wear to them. I have found the bushing for about $15. My question now is this bushing a REAL pain to change? sure it is press fit. Also I will need to change the small rollers. I did find the whole assy for about $80. wondering if that is my best bet. There goes another $100 LOL. This thing is a pain but I can't give up now.
