Removing front pulley
I have a 98 carryall with a fe350. I need to get the case cover off behind the belt pulley but dont know how to get the pulley off. I already removed the clutch. The cam isnt turning, looks like the gear sheared. Thanks

Re: Removing front pulley
Is the pulley not part of the clutch? If I remember right they are a unit which needs a special puller or homemade deal to remove.....

Re: Removing front pulley
I pulled the clutch off with a steering wheel puller. Its seperate from the pulley behind it.

Re: Removing front pulley
sounds as though you might need a new clutch too! do you have the tapered shaft from the engine or is it a non tapered shaft? this might tell us if you blew your clutch aprt or if you got it off, and some how your starter pulley got jammed on it. (which i have no idea how that happened).
but yes scottyhe needs the puller. i have one he could borrow if he cant get one. i well mail it to him. but i need to find, after my wife moved it. it will cost around 5 bucks to ship to the land of obama. |

Re: Removing front pulley
Thanks Fellas. I just cut a rod that fit in the hole and used a 7/16 fine thread bolt to press it off. Cost me $3.41 total. The rivets sheared of the cam gear and bent a valve. I got everything I need, just gotta pick up a new front seal. we have a dealer somewhat local for the seal. My buddy got 2 carryalls. I had to finish the 18hpbriggs and stratton upgrade someone started and I got this one for free

Re: Removing front pulley
bolt the cam gear back on the cam with machine screws and nuts unless it broke the gear. valve will be a dealer item.
