Gas selection for 2019 Yamaha PTV Drive 2 gas cart
Have a new 2019 Yamaha PTV golf car. Got two different suggestions for gas, one 91 octane, and one regular gas, all unleaded. Which fuel should I be using in this new golf car? Not sure, and yes, both came from the dealer and his mechanic!

I have been running 87 octane in my 2018 PTV with good results...no issues whatsoever.

87 is fine. And up to 10% ethanol is allowed also. Per EPA mandate, ethanol will be in all the gas intended for road use (what you will find at the typical gas station). Regular ol' gas from the pump is fine...

High octane gas is for hi compression engines not golf carts, always better to use non ethanol fuel when available

While I agree that ethanol free is preferred, the gas cap says "E5" and "E10" right on it, specifing that up to 10% is fine by the engineers.

The EPA mandates a minimum amount of ethanol that must be blended with the overall fuel supply. There is no requirement for all road use gasoline to contain ethanol. The states are free to regulate ethanol independently, which they do.

Re: Gas selection for 2019 Yamaha PTV Drive 2 gas cart
Thanks for the help. I was somewhat taken aback by the suggestion to run 91 octane in a new golf cart. I did notice that Yamaha recommended gas stabilizer in the unleaded fuel. My local station has no-ethanol fuel, so will likely use that.It works better in my Thunderbird SE motorcycle. Whoever suggested putting ethanol in fuel should be shot. :- Must be the same guy who moved the lights dimmer switch to the steering wheel. Will run no-ethanol regular in the cart. Again, thanks for the help.
PS: Tests on ethanol in Georgia showed 0 to as much as 31% ethanol in some gas stations! Another reason to avoid ethanol if you can. It IS great for dissolving seals, picking up water like a sponge and rusting old metal tanks and a good number of motorcycle tanks. It even dissolved plasticizers in plastic tanks. Not good. |

My lawnmower on the other hand is a different story. I put around 6-7 gallons of gas in the tanks and it gets me through 1 mow lol |
