Star EV Brake Drum Damage
Is it possible for the brake drum to be damaged (dent) by a foreign object while driving it?

Re: Star EV Brake Drum Damage
I can't imagine anything getting to the drum and denting it since the wheel covers around the drum. Any pictures of the damage?

Re: Star EV Brake Drum Damage
Sorry no pics. It was a small indentation that was enough to rub against the brake shoe that caused a rubbing noise while driving. Our dealer said that we did it and it was not a warranty issue.

Re: Star EV Brake Drum Damage
Was the "small dent" on the inner surface of the drum where the brake shoes ride (not likely caused by you), or on the outer surface of the drum, the part of the drum you can see behind the rim during normal operation? If they cant show you the dent on the outside (where rocks & stuff could get lodged in), its unlikely you caused it. The gap between the drum and the backing plate is very slim & has a "step" that rocks & gravel cant easily slip through. But, it is a chinese built cart that does not have a reputation of "superb" build materials/quality that they may be wanting you to pay for (saved $ on original price, problems showing up now). I dealt with Star carts as a dealer, their brakes were a "chinese knock-off" of not-so-good copy quality (brake cleaner strips the paint off to bare metal & "rough edges" everywhere). I am replacing them with OEM yamaha brakes (the whole assembly, drums & all). Yamaha sells their whole assy cheaper than Buggies Unlimited sells their "china copy" version for. Direct bolt-on, drums not included in the assy, but are included in my "cheaper than BU" cost estimate. "real" star drums are not that great, and are replaced by "real" yamaha drums. The geometry is the same, & the parts are better. Intermingling yamaha & star parts has been "hit-&-miss" because the star backing plates are, for lack of a better term, "china junk".
