Default 1982 Club Car Break adjustment

A club member asked what the procedure is to adjust the breaks on his 82 CC.
Are any special tools needed?

I don't know, however if its like most generic drum brakes you have an open hole or rubber plug near the bottom below the axle on the back side occasionally on the front lug side....if not you have to take the drum off to adjust. Anyway you turn the star wheel there at bottom of shoes to tighten the shoes until they rub turning by hand in neutral jacked up off ground. I like to hit the pedal a couple times to seat the shoes, then I back them off until they just rub you can hear but are easy to turn the tire by hand. That little bit will wear off quick and you have a good seating to the drum. This assumes you adjusted the cables which determine your pedal height and don't really adjust the brakes themselves. If you just do the cables it can wear the top of the shoes off. A few brakes are upside down and the actuator (cable) is at the bottom, in this case the adjuster would be at the top on other end of shoes. If you have the window in the backing plate you can put a brake tool or large screwdriver in there and turn the wheel to adjust. For the pedal the adjustment is usually on the ends of the cables or at the pedal.
