I’m a little late for this now, but definitely don’t do that! Among other reasons, it makes it very dangerous to work on. Anything can cause a short.

Do not ground to the frame as it is a safety requirement.
If for some reason there is an issue with brushes or motor internal wiring and it contacts the motor housing, the high voltages applied by the controller would be dangerous as the frame and your body would be exposed to it. Always use an isolated negative buss bar for your accessory ground terminations. |
