What about getting a Save-A-Battery Charger from www.batterysaver.com they are very low amperage and will not boil a battery out. Mine stays connected 24/7 for months on end without being touched.

I really think any healthy set of batteries (and fully disconnected) would be fine sitting that long. Take (& print?) A pic of how the connections went (maybe draw it on paper too). As soon as you get back, hook it up & charge it before use. All this talk of "just throw 'em in the trash when you get back" is crazy. I deal with this every single year, and I think your plan is the best you can do (if you dont have a "house sitter"). My clientele is almost all "snowbirds". (They leave for our hot months)
Is it the best for them? No. Is it the best you can do? Yes. |
