Default 2011 EZGO burn smell then stopped working

2011 EZGO 48v 6 seater - started to have a burn smell and eventually stopped working. After waiting 10 minutes it drove for about 2 minutes but smell came back and stopped working while climbing a hill. Batteries are 2 years old with the appropriate water level. Battery cables looked like they were tight on the batteries. I’m wondering if the motor is going out?

It’s a RXV. Are there ways to test to confirm it’s the brakes?

Thanks for the response.

When it gives up and stops and makes that odor try touching the brake and see if it's burning hot.

Also, see if it rolls easily in TOW mode and N(on). ANY resistance means it's dragging and likely it won't even be that easy to move or move at all.
