Default Can't Get Cleaning Rims

I just got these rims and tires and there appears to be either a yellowish/brown stain or the clear coming off or something. I've tried cleaning with Mothers, some all wheel spray on cleaner, vinegar and nothing seems to remove even a slight bit. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would assume those are aluminum wheels which shouldn’t rust, but could it be rust? Even if they are aluminum if someone used steel wool to clean them it leaves particles that stay on the wheel that can rust and be a pain to get off. Just brainstorming ideas. Good luck.

I don't think it's rust and yes they are aluminum rims. I think it's the clear coat coming off but I'm not 100% sure, was hoping someone with more knowledge than me would know.

Thanks for the brainstorming ideas too!

Which mothers product? Use something with a tiny bit of grit, get one of those round headed polishing balls that go into your drill and buff it off.

Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish. I even tried a non-scratch scrubbing pad and nothing takes it off

Yes, that's the clear coat peeling and possibly corrosion starting under the clear coat.
Only way to fix that is to strip them and re-clear.

You're going to have to use something heavier then. 500 grit maybe, and even it if scratches it so what? Just work back up to finer and finer grit compounds to get them out. Leave them in a bath of paint stripper? Just my thoughts. Good luck though let us know the outcome of whatever else you try!

Gotten out in the sun and it does look like the clear coat I guess is flaking off. So how to I rectify that?

Strip the clear off. Use an Acid cleaner on the aluminum to remove any corrosion. Then re-clear them with automotive clear coat.

You can leave them bare, but they will require constant attention to prevent more corrosion.
