Re: Benefits of a HD solenoid???
I'm no expert, ScottyB is. But, since no one has replied, I'll throw in my 2 cents.
I purchased a Logi 480a controller from ScottyB. He has these 2 solenoids available. I told him that I was going to be running 22" tires on hilly terrain. He recommended the 400. From this recommendation, I assume that flat driving w/ standard size tires needs the 200. The 400 must allow more power to pass through it so it can can push bigger tires and climb hills better. Hope this helps. |

Re: Benefits of a HD solenoid???
I'm no expert either... I think a benefit would be a matched power system. My reasoning tells me it is a waste to buy a 400amp controller if you are using a 200 amp solenoid. I think it creates a bottle-neck in the power flow. You might even damage the 200 amp solenoid....and I'm going to shut up and let the experts comment.

Re: Benefits of a HD solenoid???
You guys are right... in theory
A controller limits amperage flow based upon it's rating... But controllers and solenoids have peak and sustained ratings. A 400a controller cannot sustain 400 amps ~ even though it can spike above the 400 mark. A 200a continuous/ 800a peak MJZ type solenoid will hand most all a 400a controller has to offer...... A good quality 400/1000 amp solenoid will handle all the controller can deliver and the some... hope this helps. |

Re: Benefits of a HD solenoid???
Scotty,
Where can I find some good reading to further my understanding of how golf cart electrical systems work and how it's current is handled? Honestly, I still haven't completely figured out how the entire system works... |

This is the best place you will find find for collective knowledge ...... no place I know of is dedicated to explaining how a DC vehicle works .... You might google around a little bit?
