Default 1996 ezgo dcs new guy with a glong question

Hello, I am new to this site. I have a 1996 ezgo dcs. my cart has been running fine. I noticed my state of charge meter was not lit up. I was not sure why. I ran a wire from a pos. terminal on a 6v battery and held it on the pos. post on the back of the key switch. I held it on there for about 4-5 seconds. I heard a small beep and now the cart does not run. as i opened the front of the dash. I noticed the state of charge meter has a red wire jumping over to the ignition. If i take the red jumper wire on the state of charge meter and hold it on the red ignition wire everything starts to work and the cart seems to be fine.

does anybody have a clue as to what i have done/damaged on the cart. any help will be great... all batteries have 6.5v on them.
