Light knob getting very hot
I don't quite understand this. I had my lights on for about 20-30 minutes, and when I went to turn them off, the knob was very hot, and the metal ring around where it inserts into the dash was too hot to even touch. The guy who added lights to what was his cart at the time, put the switch clear over to the left of the steering wheel.
When I had it serviced last (by a reputable EZGO dealer), he said he fixed some of the funky light wiring. I'm assuming it isn't normal for this to heat up so hot. What might it mean? Thanks. |

Re: Light knob getting very hot
It might mean the lights are pulling more amps than the switch is rated for.

Re: Light knob getting very hot
Thanks Gornoman.
Would this be something I could easily fix myself? Is the switch anywhere where I can reach it easily and change it? If I use my lights as they are, is there a risk of fire? |

Re: Light knob getting very hot
Heat is nearly always a bad thing. In general, things that are meant to heat up, usually have finned heat sinks, and things that you have to touch, like a switch, are not supposed to be hot.
As for buggies, motor and controller are the only things that may feel warm or hot. Never checked my solenoid, but it may also get warm or hot. |

Re: Light knob getting very hot
Thanks everyone.
Rib.......There's a pic of my cart as my Avatar. Its a 2006 lifted TXT series. Fortunately, I seldom use my lights. Although I did accidentally leave them on several hours a couple weeks ago. Didn't notice the heat then, but that doesn't mean it wasn't hot then. So my first thing to do would be to change the switch? Hopefully its easy to get to. Also hopefully the mice haven't been at it again. Had to have wires replaced in the past because of them. |

Re: Light knob getting very hot
I was talking about pics of the light switch and the wiring, and if you had problems with the rats eating wires, that could be your problem, something could be shorting out

Re: Light knob getting very hot
I haven't seen any mice around there recently, since I put scented dryer sheets everywhere on the cart. They do very well keeping the mice away.
But we do have lots of critters.....chipmunks, red squirrels, gray squirrels........... If I ever get brave enough to take things apart, I'll post pics. |
