It's Pretty and Tempting to Buy....but...
I'm just considering buying a 2007 Precedent with 4 x 12v batteries(ugh) that are only 1 year old. Mostly because its shiny and black with lights, cooler, club cover etc. and a great price. And I need to buy new batteries for my '96 Regen next year - so I might be able to avoid that. Not much to do to this Precedent except add pretty wheels....but I only know DS models - so the questions that I have for this knowledgable group are:
1) Does 2007 still have the weak/bad steering & front suspension from 2004 & 5 or was it fixed? 2) Could it be Excel (harder to speed up) or was Excel even around then? 3) Were there any other weaknesses in 2007? 4) I know...phone and get the serial number if I'm serious right? Thanks, |

Re: It's Pretty and Tempting to Buy....but...
I understand that point of view (AKA ugh), but I got huge battery life out of my DS, because its used for golf and recharged with (probably) less than 20% gone....so I'm hoping to stretch these a bit, and then carve up the compartment and replace them with 8v when its time. Mostly I'm wondering about the mechanical / electrical issues that might be associated with this model year.

OK, I've got the serial number - it is: PQ0736-808445
So....what is it exactly? |

Did a search on this site - PQ means an IQ cart/controller. That seems good to me. I assume IQ is similar to the DS IQ carts - programmable with speed code 4?

Get the date code off of the batteries = year and month. These batts may be the 2nd or 3rd (maybe 4th) set if they only last two years as others have stated. Quote:

Re: It's Pretty and Tempting to Buy....but...
That helps a whole bunch, thanks for the research - so I know its the older dash design now (don't mind that) and that I will have to take a dremel & cutting wheel to the battery tub when I upgrade to 8v - there's huge detail on this site for that conversion (I mind that a bit more but I'm handy enough to pull it off).
And I'm actually happy that its IQ, because I believe it is a tried and tested drive system. Per your suggestion, I will definitely be checking the battery dates. I sure hope 2 years isn't the norm, but I recognize the limitations of the 12v. If they do check out, but grind to a halt next year - I will suffer for it (wife golfs too - she knows the excuses I'm using to consider this upgrade). What about the steering/suspension - is this still the chassis with the weak sister steering and suspension (a rumor I've heard)? I'm sure that 2004 & 5 were dogs....and I'm not doing a lift kit, so it matters to me. |

Re: It's Pretty and Tempting to Buy....but...
Rats! I just found out that the Precedent owner replaced the batteries last year AND replaced a failed controller with an after market (non-programmable) one that was compatible with the OEM harness, because it was cheaper. I have no idea what that replacement controller might be, but since its not programmable I'm not very interested. At least he was honest about it - I would have been one sad princess if I'd gotten it home and discovered that on my own!

Re: It's Pretty and Tempting to Buy....but...
Yeah that kinda sucks, and yes that is an honest guy!
The IQ is one of the best systems out there. As for the 12v batts I have not had any first hand experience, but from what I have heard on here they are not good for run time. Now since the batts are fairly new, you may get 3 years out of them, then do the conversion to 8v. In the sticky there is excellent and very detailed info. As for the controller, people on here occasionally sell stock IQ controllers usually with code 4 already programmed for around $100 when they upgrade to a bigger one... Good luck! |
