95 cc won't move
I am looking at a 95 cc that won't go. I put in all new batteries. The silenoid clicks but I know it still could be bad. I jump the silenoid and hit the pedal and nothing. It has an upgraded motor and 550 curtis 1204 controller. Please tell me what are the next steps to check before I order a new controller. I tested power at the silenoid with my meter on ground and tested both sides of the silenoid and they both show 49volts. Thanks for everyone help

Re: 95 cc won't move
First thing to do is verify that all power wiring (the 6 or 4 gauge wires) are connected and tight, then proceed to testing the rest of the car. Check everything... batteries, F&R, controller, and the motor (I can't count how many times I have found a wire burnt off at the motor).
Next check that you are getting the proper resistance to the controller. you should be getting 5k at pedal up and it should drop to 0 as you depress the pedal. I also like to verify that I am getting good power at the controller. To do this I use aligator clips on my meter and hook the red to the B+ and the black to the B- on the controller. Once you verify that you have good power at the controller and a good resistance reading, the next step is to determine if it is the motor or the controller that has failed. A quick and dirty test to determine which is bad is to take a heavy wire (at least 6 gauge) with a set of Medium sized clips on the end of it. I use one that is about 10" long so that I can put a good U shape in it. Put the car in neutral and turn off the key. Jack up the rear end and support it on jack stands. Clip 1 end of your jumper wire to the B- of the controller and the other end to the M- of the controller. turn on the key, put the car in forward and then quickly depress and release the accellerator pedal. If the wheels start turning, you have a bad controller, if they don't you have a bad motor (and possibly a bad controller as well, but fix the motor first). Keep in mind that doing this is going to send FULL BATTERY voltage to the motor so you have to be prepared for it and DON'T hold the accellerator down for any length of time, just enough to verify if the motor is turning under power. |

Re: 95 cc won't move
The obc has not been bypassed. I just put new batteries in today and the charger works because it is hooked up to another cart right now. I will try all of these great suggestions. Btw does anyone buy used and bad controllers? I have 2 curtis 225a three prongs and 2 curtis 550a four prongs bad controllers. Thanks

Re: 95 cc won't move
The traffic remains here on bgw even when the other sites are dead or is it because the other sites are dead? Either way the boys have built and modded the best golf cart site in the universe, I'm just glad to be hanging out .....

I don't know how things are elsewhere because this is the only forum i visit, but i can say things are dead even in the shop where I work. Seems like people are collectively holding their breath waiting for some sign that the economy is turning around before spending money on upgrades/repairs. |
