Acceleration Question: Double Tap Pedal
I have a 97 Club Car 48 volt V-Glide with an AMD 5.5HP motor and Curtis PMC 1204-410 controller. In order to reach the top end speed of the motor I have to double pump the accelerator.
Is this normal, a case of a V-Glide that needs some TLC, or the makings of a bigger problem? |

Re: Acceleration Question: Double Tap Pedal
i don,t think thats normal but even asking about it your ahead of the game.......you need to start somewhere so why not at least inspect the V-glide to see........might stop something before it gets bigger........................

Re: Acceleration Question: Double Tap Pedal
Thanks Shadowman. We're going to pull the V-Glide apart tonight and take a look at it. I'll let you know what I find.

Re: Acceleration Question: Double Tap Pedal
I agree you first should check V Glide contacts and wiper arm brush and tension spring, then check the small electronic resistors on the backside of V Glide for damage or cracked connecting wires for damage. Any poor connections with low ohms will cause bad signals going to controller.
I wonder if part of your problems results might be because of the stock Curtis 1204-410 controller ( which was used with about a 3 HP motor ) which is rated for about 225-250 amps and you are running with a larger than stock motor ( 5.5 HP and about 400-500amp draw depending on motor used ) and possibly be damaging the controller?? |

Re: Acceleration Question: Double Tap Pedal
Thanks for the reply OldMec. Took a look at the V-Glide and noticed when the accelerator is fully depressed it is stopping short by 1/8" - 1/4" from fully covering the last contact on the V-Glide. If we press the accelerator a second time it fully covers the final contact. Spraying contact cleaner on the V-Glide didn't improve anything with acceleration.
When I get more time today I will try to adjust the linkage from the accelerator cable to see if I can eliminate that "slop"/gap the first time the accelerator is depressed. The motor is an Advanced Motors and Drives 5.5 HP motor. Last edited by robpmi; 07-06-2011 at 11:20 AM.. Reason: V-Glide observation |

Re: Acceleration Question: Double Tap Pedal
I managed to break something tonight on the cart. I removed the linkage from the pedal to the V-Glide adjust and managed to break the adjustable sleeve.
So much for cruising the campground tonight. Stay tuned for more... |

Re: Acceleration Question: Double Tap Pedal
Turns out that by adjusting the accelerator rod to allow the wiper arm to completely cover the top contact on the V-glide did the trick. Quick and easy fix.
Replacement part that I broke was only $4 at my local CC dealer. Thanks everyone. |
