Default Chevy Volt battery BMS pinout

I have been asked this a couple of times, so attached is the pinout for the Chevy Volt batteries.

Very nice!

I wonder what will happen with the price of the Chevy Volt packs now that it's been announced Volt production is ceasing?

I would think GM or their supplier is still going to produce replacement batteries for some given time frame.

There are way too many alternatives, and there is nothing special about Volt packs. Here is a good thread comparing options :

Other than the fact the Chevy boasts they have not had to replace any Volt packs due to failure or damage since their inception. That speaks volumes when it comes to reliability and knowing that Chevy purposefully reported the usable ah of those packs a whole lot lower than what they are actually capable of just to extend the usable lifespan.

When you go to get salvaged Volt packs you know they're more than likely in a fresher state vs Leaf packs of similar year/miles.

EDIT: BTW good read cricketo! Thanks for posting the link

It is true there are come concerns specifically about Leaf - cells may have been stressed out quite a bit due to lack of active cooling. But Volt is not the only hybrid out there, and all of those cells are produced by major companies - LG, NEC, Samsung, Panasonic.

The thing to remember though, when we're using salvaged cells for utility vehicle conversions, we're less likely to put the kind of use on them they were subjected to in the original vehicles. We will still get plenty of utility out of them, and are very unlikely to realize any inherent limitations.
