Charger not working but mechanic says it's fine
My dad recently came into possession of a used Club Car golf cart and is trying to get it to work. He had to have it towed home because it wouldn't hold a sufficient charge for it run (this charge was achieved with a different charger) although the headlights worked, and was told that the problem was insufficient water in the batteries (it had been sitting in a garage charging for about ten months prior).
Anyway, I've added the water and am attempting to charge it, but the charger has an amp meter which doesn't rise above zero when it's plugged in. So my dad took the charger for repair, but was told that it's fine. Attempting it again, the amp meter still isn't raising. Could an issue with the golf cart affect whether the charger's gauge shows anything? What could that problem be? |

I hope you didn't fill those batteries full with water, only cover the plates until they are charged then fill to the proper level.Put a volt meter across the battery pack and see what the total voltage is.The batteries need voltage before the charger will kick on to start charging. Is it 36 or 48 volt ?.

If you have sufficient pack voltage, the On board computer could be keeping the charger from performing.

Re: Charger not working but mechanic says it's fine
Thanks everyone for your responses.
The year on it is 2003 which, from what I gather from a web search, means that it must be be 48 volts. I'm not sure where to check that on the cart itself. I don't have a volt meter, so I'll have to buy one if that's necessary for diagnosing this. |

2003 had both 36 and 48v cars. What does the charge receptacle look like? 2 prongs, or 3 pins in a circle?
