Voltage with key off - why?

My digital voltmeter shows about five volts with the key off. This is after I had to install a new diode. I checked the correct witing position and believe I have everything correct. Any ideas?

Mine does it also, but only my digital multimeter. My cart mounted DVM shows no voltage with the key off. Have looked lots of places for a reason, switch checks out OK and everything. Nearest explanation I've found is "phantom voltage." where a good meter will show voltage that is there but not really there. It's weird and I can't explain it well, but a Google search of the term might help you.

This shows it on the cart mounted dvm. Therefore I have to disconnect the cables after use or it will run the battery down I guess??

Some people wire the LED ones to stay on all the time. It shouldn't have that much draw. So you don't have to disconnect...

I think I need to fix it. It's got something to do with the potentiometer microswitch. If I push on the accelerator with it off and activate th switch the voltage does not show. That's not right but don't know how to fix.

Try temporally connecting a jumper wire from B- to the metal frame and see if it goes away.

That is not good, the throttle power is 5v, if you accidentally mixed the solenoid activation circuit, 48v, with the throttle power 5v, you could fry the controller.

That pedal micro-switch should only have 2 wires connected to it, although the switch itself may have 3 terminals.

Please follow your wires carefully to make sure they are connected on the correct place.

So - I checked the wire set up - I believe all is good except possibly the potentiometer. My understanding is that the micro switch for the pot isn't position sensitive - meaning it doesn't matter which goes where so long as I use only the two outside prongs and not the center one. If so I'm good there. However I'm still getting 5.6-5.8 volts on the dash digital volt display with the key off.

I tried the b- thing above but it didn't work.

The 5 volts drops off when I press the accelerator. It's something in the potentiometer or something back feeding so where? Cart wheels move and all else seems normal. I left it disconnected obviously.

What else is connected to the key switch, dc converter, etc?
