Re: I need some advice on a clutch spring
I'm still not sure you understand the operation of the clutch & spring. There is no spring that "adds torque", it only modifies how the same torque that was always there is used. Putting more tension on it (by changing "hole settings") will have the effect of staying in "low gear" (more torque multiplication) longer when starting moving, and be more willing to shift back into "low gear" as rpms drop, like bogging down while climbing a hill. You are not changing amount of torque, or changing gear ratios.
So there is no number for "how much torque will X-X setting give me?". Well there is, and the number is zero. You are only changing the way the same torque gets used. |

Re: I need some advice on a clutch spring
Your probably right, I get it but I don't get it. I understand now that it's not adding torque, it's just changing when it's engaged more or less. I asked the question badly. When I climbed the first hill it started bogging down about half way up, kinda like climbing a hill with a stick shift car in too high of a gear except it didn't "downshift".
When I climbed the second hill I made it up about 3/4 of the way since I was already moving at a higher speed and then it started doing the same thing. I was telling a friend of mine about what happened he thought it might be my allegedly fresh rebuilt .50 over engine so I did a compression test on it and it was consistent on 140 psi all 5 times I tried it so I don't think it's that but I'm sure no mechanic. So by putting it on the B-4 setting it should engage later and downshift sooner correct? |
