Default Anyone done Plowmans head porting?

Proud owner of a 2011 Yamaha G29. I am planning on getting Plowmans Extreme Lifted Performance Kit this winter while the cart is parked. I’m very interested getting the head port and polish done as well. Curious if anyone else has had this done? I’d really like to get some feedback. Thanks.

I have not had that done but I have heard people rave about it on here. I have done business with Don Plowman many times, and he's the real deal. He doesn't sell anything that doesn't work. He's been modding carts and sleds and bikes for longer than I've been alive lol. Good guy and he knows his stuff.

I have done head porting myself and it does make a pretty good difference on a stock cart. Most of the castings on the stock engines are very rough and have lots of hard angles. The golf carts were never made for performance, but just the opposite. They didn't want too much power in the hands of drunk golfers if you know what I mean. So performance upgrades on stock engines usually yield pretty good results.

I would call Don Plowman and talk to him. He will likely recommend a few upgrades for the best performance, I'm guessing some clutch work etc. If you do what he recommends I know you'll be leaving his shop with a smile on your face. He's a performance enthusiast himself and likes to make his customers happy with giving them more power. It's what keeps him in business.

I’ve been lurking on here for a few years so I’m very familiar with Don’s reputation. I have searched all over this forum and couldn’t find anyone that had it done, that is on a G29 at least. I’m sure I’ll end up getting it done just so I can tell people I had the head port and polished on my golf cart

Agree w/slonomo. The stock engines in ANY golf cart are pretty heavily restricted. They're designed for quiet smooth operation, not performance.

Most 290-300cc golf cart motors are in the range of 9hp

As a comparison, quick google search, a honda 300ex is 22hp. A Kawasaki mojave 250 is 25hp. honda rancher 350 is around 21hp

Call and talk to Don, he's a wealth of information. He will be able to tune you in :)

I'm guessing all the listed engines are DOHC 4-valve setups, with rpm ranges that are double what is seen in golf cart "pushrod motors". But I'm sure lots could be done to wake up a cart motor.

Maybe not an apples to apples comparison, no. Different motors designed for completely different purposes, but was just illustrating a point. To someone experienced with building motors, there's a lot of little things that can be done to wake them up.

The 350 is 2 valve pushrod motor, max rpm is around 4500-5000. They're a workhorse but not necessarily "fast". Anythong over about 3000 is just revving for gearing purposes, it doesn't make any more power beyond that...
The 300ex is a 4 valve, SOHC motor
The mojave is 4 valve DOHC (and very prone to head/valve issues, but they run awesome when they run right)
