Brakes self adjusting too tight
Hello all,
I’ve noticed that the left brake on my 91 G9 cart self adjusts until it is dragging heavily. I thought maybe one adjuster was sticking so I took the brakes apart, cleaned them, greased the adjusters and it is still doing it. Any suggestions? When I put the brakes back together I manually adjusted the brakes until they just start to grab then back them off a few clicks. Anything wrong with this procedure? Thanks. - Grant Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Brakes self adjusting too tight
I've had the same problem for 10 years. My solution was to disable the self adjusters with zip ties around the star wheels. I just manually adjust the brakes when required. However I will be watching this to see the correct solution...

Re: Brakes self adjusting too tight
Interesting. I'm tempted to replace all the brake components with new OEM yamaha stuff. Currently running non-oem shoes, drums, and adjusters.
The OEM stuff is so expensive! I could probably do an aftermarket disk brake setup for cheaper. |

Re: Brakes self adjusting too tight
Ive run across this with DIYers in the past.
The system can only adjust the brake shoes out so far before the arm cant push the star wheel out any more. The system is basic and if everything is lubed up, working freely, adjusting the system correctly will fix the issue. |

I think the non OEM statement says it all. I don't think ive heard anything good about the aftermarket brake parts yet. Ive compared them side by side and you can tell a difference in quality and fitment.

Re: Brakes self adjusting too tight
Replace non oem brake parts with oem and use the proper lube. Invest in a repair manual so you know the proper procedure. It sounds like the parts were installed incorrectly, not the proper parts, or are not maintained correctly. The brake adjusters from the factor actually work very well. |
