Re: G16 Governor Arm Cut Off??
Just a thought here....
Drill out and remove the rivets for the fly weights, then remove the fly weights. This eliminates the mechanism that causes resistance and counter movement of the governor shaft. These are the parts that often come apart at high speeds and cause damage to the gears. If the torrington bearing? needs removed, just section it with a cutting wheel and remove it. Although leaving it in place doesn't seem to be an issue, it doesn't do anything but slide back and forth right? So would that movement cause damage or noise? That's the question. |

Re: G16 Governor Arm Cut Off??
Good to know I never knew the flywheel weights would or could be an issue, they look really well attached.. The issue I had is with no pressure on the washers that put pressure on the sides of the Torrington bearing the needles can come out. I’d like to try what you said about removing the weights and just cut off the 2 washers and Torrington bearing as well.. anyone else think this would bullet proof this issue or see any other issues with doing this? I don’t think that affects any other clearances or spacing on the input shaft or gears... I’d just hate to remove and find out I ruined the input shaft by overlooking something...

Re: G16 Governor Arm Cut Off??
It would definitely eliminate the source of governing & problems. Besides potential overspeed, I dont see any other issues.

Re: G16 Governor Arm Cut Off??
Got it all back together. Tested it around the block and yard and working great. Going to keep it easy for a while then change fluid. I removed the governor fork (not the shaft that goes through top of case), as well as the washers and Torrington bearing on input shaft. I through in a couple photos.

Re: G16 Governor Arm Cut Off??
Very nice! Glad it worked out. You'll have peace of mind knowing those unnecessary parts aren't floating around in there. Well done sir!
