Yamaha G1 help
I recently picked up a G1 from a golf course that sold out. Ive updated to the new style solenoids, replaced the brushes in the starter and have cleaned the gas tank, carb, fuel pump and replaced the fuel lines. Checked the compression and its at 120+ psi. The cart will run but only with the choke on, I have read other posts and think it too is the crank seals need replaced. My question is what do I need to unhook to make the motor idle so I can check these seals before tearing to far into the motor? I read on here that a butane torch can be used to check for leaks, has anyone used anything else to check for leaks with any success or is the torch method the way to go? Thanks in advance

Re: Yamaha G1 help
go to the CDI and disconnect the black wire with white strip. it will start and run with the pedal but will only shutoff with the key switch at that point. dont leave the cart like this as it will over heat, the engine was not designed to idle.
IMO just do the crank seals and be done with it. if you dont know their age then it time to replace them. not a bad job just need the primary clutch tool. use the correct tool depending on clutch. check the stickies for the procedure. |

Re: Yamaha G1 help
STOP RUNNING IT! Continuing to use it with bad crank seals will kill it, and your compression will drop like a rock! On any 2-stroke, any crankcase leaks (crank seals) allows air into the air/fuel mix that did not pass through the carburetor. This will result in a lean air/fuel ratio (that's why you have to pull the choke, it richens up the fuel mix leaving the carb). Lean A/F ratios burn-up 2-stroke engines. Please heed this warning.

Re: Yamaha G1 help
Thanks guys, I do know better than to run it that way I just wanted to make sure to double check that it wasn't just a reed valve leak before tearing it to far apart
