New tires are rubbing - need to know about the air
I just installed a new set of 12" rims and low profile tires, that I bought from Stretch Plastics, on a cart. The cart is a 2006 Club caR DS 48 volt all stock, no lift.
This is what I bought : MS-0-1044 215 x 35 -12 Achieva on 12 x 7 full 8 spoke Spider MF I put 20 pounds of air in them. Problem is when the tires are turned all the way to either side, with 2 passengers, the tires rub. With only one passenger, they barely clear. What i want to know, FIRST, is how much air do i run in theses tires? I am hoping that I have too much air in them, and if i can run less air, maybe they won't rub? If by removing air, that won't fix the problem, do i have any other options besides lifting? I don't want to lift, but want to keep the new tires. Please help? Thanks |

The tire should say on it's sidewall what the recommended pressure is...... I thought Strech Plastics only sold to dealers, are you a dealer?

Re: New tires are rubbing - need to know about the air
The tire says max 30 psi on the side.
I thought with low profile tires you run alot less air. The reason I thought this was because I take care of quite a few snowbirds carts , and a few have the low profile tires. When I check the air in their tires, they are at 10 pounds? Are these guys running too low of air or what? And yes I can buy from Stretch. |

The 30psi is for mounting purposes only. It should be filled 20-22psi max.

Re: New tires are rubbing - need to know about the air
OK, if that is the case, then that will answer two of my questions, the first is how much air to put in the tires. Second answer is that by letting air out of the tires, say down to 10 pounds, that will not help the tire rubbing situation.
So you think the guys low profile tires that I check, and that have 10-12 pounds of air, is ok, or are they running way too little air? Any ideas other than lifting, to keep these new tires from rubbing? |

Is it possible to trim where it rubs without compromising anything?

Re: New tires are rubbing - need to know about the air
As far as triming, doesn't look like it. It is rubbing on the part of the plastic body, where it folds under. If i was to trim it, you would be able to see it, and also would take away the strength of the body in that area.
It doesn't sound like the idea of moving wheels forward, would help. The tire still swings out past the fender when turning. |
