Cart Shutters as if Batteries are dead
Definately a newbie......Just bought a 2004 36v EZGO TXt for our kids. After a full charge they can ride for 5 minutes or so as if there is no problem. After letting off of the gas pedal and starting again the cart shutters and barely inches forward as if the batteries are dead. If it sits for 5-10 minutes it runs fine until they let off the gas again. Battery cables appear to be in good shape and the motor isn't warm to the touch (not sure if that matters). Any suggestions??

Check and tighten all connections. Sounds like a bad connection to me.

Re: Cart Shutters as if Batteries are dead
Welcome to BGW!
The batteries might not being holding a charge. What is the battery pack voltage and individual battery 12 hours after the charger turns off automatically? (Should be 38.2V for a 36V pack, 6.37 per 6V battery and the difference between highest and lowest battery should be 0.1V or less.) What is the battery pack voltage and individual battery voltages when the cart is misbehaving? After only 5 to 10 minutes of use, they should still be 90% or better charged. Here is a state of charge chart. |

Re: Cart Shutters as if Batteries are dead
12 hours after a full charge the batteries as a whole are at 36 volts. each battery hold exactly 6 volts except one that has 5.8 volts. When to cart starts to misbehave five of the batteries have 5.8 volts and the one has 5.6 volts. Is it the batteries that need to be replaced? I have checked, cleaned and tightened all connections from front to back.

Re: Cart Shutters as if Batteries are dead
Yes, the batteries need to be replaced.
6V is only a 50% State of charge and 5.8V is less than 20%. When the cart misbehaves, five batteries are less than 20% and one is less than 10%. Batteries are expensive and the key factor is the AH (Amp Hour) rating when discharged at the 20 Hour rate. Here is a list of some of the more common deep-cycle lead-acid wet cell (Golf Cart) batteries available. (The list is not a complete list, there are many other brands out there.) (Marine and Car batteries are for boats and cars, get batteries specifically designed for Golf Carts) Note: The Trojan T-105 is the de facto standard for Golf Carts. It is a 225AH battery, so batteries with a lesser AH rating won't run as long and batteries with a greater AH rating will run longer. When you get the new batteries, fully charge them before using them. (No matter what vendor says about them being already charged, put them on charge before using cart) Note: The initial charge will take a long time, possible 12 hours or more. New batteries also have to be broken in properly to obtain their maximum storage capacity. (They only have about 75% of max before being broken in.) Here is how to break them in properly. http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Batter...n_Methods.html While on the web-site, read everything with "Battery" in title. Lots of good info. Also, for maximum life span (years before they must be replaced) batteries should be kept as fully charged as possible and practical. Basically, the batteries should be charged after each use. |

Re: Cart Shutters as if Batteries are dead
You can also check your charger for charging voltage while connected to the cart. It should be around 42-44V after a few hours of charging. It should start at 15-20amps ( if your charger has an ammeter ), and go down to 2-4amps after several hours. And like " JohnnieB " said, you may need new batts. Make sure your charger is working right before you get new batteries, though! Here's a helpful chart :
