Did I fry my controller
Hi BGW, So I have another cart and may have done some damage! Hooked the batteries up backwards!!!
Solenoid clicks but thats it. What do I need to check? Did I fry the controller? How do I check it? Cart is 1993 solid state, 1205-201 controller 36v.  |

What year and model cart is it?
Is there a diode on the solenoid small posts? Did it spark or smoke? Did it spark or smoke when you hooked it up? Or when you pressed the gas? We need more information. |

What year and model cart is it? 1993 955 shuttle solid state 36v
Is there a diode on the solenoid small posts? Did it spark or smoke when you hooked it up? Or when you pressed the gas? some burning smell when I pressed the go.No sparking or smoking but it wwas dark out! We need more information. When hooked up corectly the solenoid clicks. |

No, It had no batteries when I bought it. So put a set of brand new batteries in and tried to fire her up and opps batteries backwards.

Since solenoid does click we are going to assume everything up to that point works. Test the controller as you have read here many times. Put your Test meter leads on B- and M-. Right when the solenoid clicks you should have Pack voltage. As you continue to press the peddle the reading should go down to nothing.

So I am in the process of upgrading all the cables to 4 gauge. Earlier before i got a response to this post I tried to start it and i did not hear the solenoid and there was some smoking and a 20a fuse blew. I have 2 very long cabels that go from the motor to the front that still need to be replaced? not sure if good wires and crap wires mixed is a problem or not? not sure where they go yet I'm guessing the fnr? But they are 8 gauge and look like crap wire showing etc...
Ok with that said is it ok to poceed with any testing? Here are some pic's... Hope you can see them and tell me if anything looks wrong. There is a 10 gauge white wire from the fuse box to the neg on the second battery? Ground to the FB? There are two 10 gauge wires on battery 5 neg cable have no idea where those are going? I would simplify as much as you can until you see it run. I would disconnect the white wire (12V - it looks like it belongs on the + terminal of the second battery, not the - terminal of the 3rd battery) and just get it down to solenoid activation, power through the controller, and throttle signal.

Sounds good to me. I don't need the headlights etc. to get it running. So if you could remind me where the b- and m- are i could get this ball rolling. Is it possible that I fryed the controller by putting the battery in backwards? I know anything is possible but is it common?
And as usual I want to say thank you very much for your response and help. I'm aware how difficult it is to speculate on all these questions us newbies ask but know that we could not do any of this without your help! |
