What is the correct Speaker Wire Gauge?
I will be wiring in a Kenwood head unit, along with some speakers (haven't decided which ones yet). Everything will be wired into a fuse block and then to a dedicated 12V battery.
What gauge speaker wire would you recommend? I would like to use a marine grade speaker wire as well. Where did you purchase yours? |

You won't need anything heavier that 16g. You could probably be just fine with 18g. Always depends on wattage. Post what speakers you're looking at getting.

Re: What is the correct Speaker Wire Gauge?
Exactly, shouldn't need anything bigger than 16g. Honestly you can get speaker wire from wal-mart or autozone and save a few bucks. It will be many years before they ever think about corroding enough to affect anything. Marine wire corrodes also, I just re-wired my friends boat that had marine wire and it was 5 years old in bad shape. For the head unit you can use 14g for the primary power wire to it without trouble.

Re: What is the correct Speaker Wire Gauge?
Wes,
Thanks for the info. I have been searching for different wire types. Marine grade is probably overkill, especially since my cart won't see much inclement weather. Still trying to decide on the speakers. I did buy the Kenwood KMR350U unit based on it's reviews. I don't need a ghetto blaster, just a good radio. I actually like listening to the sports talk shows more than anything else. |

If your not looking for anything breathe taking. Look into Pyle marine speakers. I put two 6.5" in my cart and they sound quite nice for $30.
