I have always wondered this...
With a series cart with no regen braking, you can really get flying down a hill. I just wonder how fast you can go without blowing the motor?

. . . depending on voltage/hp rating, most stock motors are rated between 2800-3300 rpms . . . however, for example, if one takes an AMD 36-volt series motor (2.4-hp @ 3000 rpm) and puts it into a 48v cart, it is rated at 3.1-hp @ 4000 rpm . . . bottom line is to be careful/sure what you attempt . . . as ScottyB said, motors can have catastrophic failures when pushed beyond their limits . . .

I seem to recall 8000 rpm is the stated limit for stock motors.

Most likely I will not exceed 15 to 20. I don't hit the ball far enough to get going that much. the only other time will be going from club house to start play.
I am one of those odd balls that use this thing for golf 99.9 % of the time. That four letter word.

Yeah and it has a magnet that can pull the ball out of water, weeds, etc...

Ok update, today I played that four letter word game. My cart did great. I find that I do have more torque. Today I could bump the fleet carts going up hill. All I need to do going down hill is not hold the pedal all the way down to keep it from over speed down hill. Going up one steep hill today with two people and clubs on my cart I pulled away and left the fleet cart my friend was driving and he was by himself.
