Re: HD Hub Help
That is mine, and as luck would have it, the star nut is stuck. Sprayed PB blaster and can not get it to budge. Of course the side I did not change, the star moves. Just my luck. I am not sure what to do now.

Re: HD Hub Help
It's probably not moving because it has so much pressure on it.....

Re: HD Hub Help
Well I got it off!!! Just let the PB blaster sit. Through all the pain at least this newbie learned something new yet again.

Re: HD Hub Help
So I noticed when I ran the cart on the jack stands, both my back wheels were moving when in forward. I thought carts only had power to one wheel? I know somehow I am again showing my ignorance, but I had to ask.

Re: HD Hub Help
One wheel can be easily held while the other turns. Go buy new adjusters - they cant possibly be working if they are rusted up...

Re: HD Hub Help
Just to clarify, both wheels have equal power when I push down on the accelerator. I was not turning them by hand.
Once I got the drum off, the adjuster worked good and I could easily adjust the brakes on both sides. I did not see any rust, so I am not sure why it was stuck. Maybe as Knothead mentioned I had so much pressure on it when I forced it on originally. |

Re: HD Hub Help
The "star" will only turn freely in one direction, it moves the pads outward to compensate for wear. You don't want that direction. To move the pads in to allow for a new brake drum you have to lift the locking leaver to rotate the star the opposite direction.
