Carryall 2 Series motor short
My Carryall 2 controller (1204-412) burnt out the other day. I checked the motor, and it runs fine when connected directly to two batteries giving 16v total. However there is a short on one of the terminals to the motor body.
So i wanted to change the burnt out controller to a new 1204m-5303. But now I'm worried that maybe the motor burnt out the old controller? Even though the motor essentially works fine. Anybody seen this before? |

Re: Carryall 2 Series motor short
Do you mean an "Arc" strike? Like it arced over to the body?
If so, that is ok as long as it is still functioning correctly. |

Re: Carryall 2 Series motor short
I measured continuity from the terminals to the body of the motor, and there is continuity from A1 and A2 to motor body. Is that okay?

Re: Carryall 2 Series motor short
Not OK. Any continuity from terminal studs to the case will damage the controller.
You will need to disassemble the motor and fix the internal short, or replace it before connecting a new controller. The controller will be instantly damaged otherwise. |

Re: Carryall 2 Series motor short
Yup, as FT4M said, there cannot be any continuity as that indicates a short/ground in the motor. Some times you can luck up and it is a motor brush issue, but is arcing were present, it is probably in the windings/armature.
